What normally goes into a baby’s diaper bag?

I already have my going to the hospital for labor bag packed. I'm talking about the actual diaper bag that I will have to carry around for months and months everywhere I go as my baby grows up. How many diapers, etc? I am planning on breast feeding.

  1. what I always have in my diaper bag is of course diapers but the amount will depend on how long you will be gone. For a few hours I would have around 5 diapers if you are gone all day then 10. always have a pack of wipes. Not a little pack a big pack to help wash hands and also diaper changes. I also pack a couple of hand toys for the baby to see hanging on the car seat or when they are bigger to play with. Board books are great when they are older. I also have at least 2 to 3 outfits in case of spit ups or blow outs and some bibs too. I also would have a couple of burp cloths and a receiving blanket or two. Rash cream like Triple paste and either disposable changing table mats or a mat to change your baby on and some hand sanitizer for when you can’t wash your hands after.

Just a little tip to save your car seat from blow outs is put a receiving blanket folded twice and put it where the baby’s butt is and also the legs and back. You want all that area covered. So if your baby has a blow out it will hopefully stay on the receiving blanket and then you wont have to wash your car seat.

  2. If you don’t know that, you really shouldn’t be having a baby!

  3. Kimberly S Says:

Since you will be breastfeeding that will eliminate formula and bottles. So, wipes, diapers, burp clothes, extra change of clothes for baby and any of your stuff like wallet, keys, gum etc. The amt. of diapers will depend on how long you will be gone from home.

  4. if it’s a long trip like for 3 or more hours, you probably need about 10 diapers. babies pee a lot, you know.
and if it’s just like 1-2 hours probably just 5-7.
a sippy cup for older babies
    band aids
    wipes
    small hand towel(s)
    a small baby blanket
    a little toy
    a small book

Pack everything you can possibly imagine needing for your baby for a one day period, then double it. You think I am kidding but I’m not.

diapers extra clothing pacifer bottles something to keep them occupied burping rag baby wipes

  7. ☆Due In November☆ Says:

Make sure it always has 3-5 diapers, this way if you forget to repack it, you’ll still have some, pack a change of clothes, or two, wipes, blanket, diaper cream, pacifier, hat, socks, when the baby is older you put some toys in it, baby tylenol, mylicon, i personally always keep my wallet in mine too, this way i dont need to carry a purse as well as a diaper bag, and a baby… it’s a lot!

  8. thundercloud Says:

4 diapers, baby wipes, a&d ointment, baby tylenol, baby toys rattle, music maker, binky, blankie, changing pad, change of clothes and burp cloth.

  9. I would have a diaper for each hour you plan to be out, a changing pad, a pack of wipes (Lansinoh is a great brand for if you are breastfeeding), a change of baby clothes, diaper rash cream, hand sanitizer, a roll of plastic baggies for wrapping dirty diapers, and extra breast pads for you.

  10. »Spence's Mommy« Says:

3-5 diapers, depending on length of outing
    change pad
    whipes
i keep 2 plastic zippered bags in there
1 contains : tylenol, abmesol, ovol, oral thermometer, vicks baby rub, soother medicine dispense
2 contsins : diaper cream, lanolin wax, vaseline, baby powder
    change of clothes
    a few toys
    soother / teether
    snacks
    bottle

  11. I am sure the new mom packs WAY too much, and those that have done it for years have much lighter, and more organized bags than the newbies….I’d plan for anything you’d need for 2-4 hours while away from home…wipes, diapers (I think babies go through 8 a day?) toys, snacks (when suitable) a few changes of clothes, or just one, depending on the length of trip…nursing pads and stuff that YOU will need, drapes, etc. diaper rash cream?

Sorry I can’t give much more help, but I am sure you’ll learn what you yourself can’t live without and what killed your shoulder trying to lug around the town.

Good Luck…within a FEW days you’ll think it was so silly that you even asked, as it’s become SO obvious through practice!

  12. You can never have enough diapers, especially if you are breastfeeding, your little one will poop everytime you feed him/her. Always bring at least two outfits and plenty of wipes. Pack some diaper cream, vasaline, bibs, soother, receiving blankets, socks, and anything else you would usually carry in your purse. It’s so much easier to just toss everything (neatly of course) into the diaper bag instead of carrying a diaper bag and a purse. Hope tihs helps, best of luck!

  13. If you breastfeed just pack diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, a small toy (in case they get fussy and want something to play with). I also pack infant tylenol and Hyland teething tablets (because you just never know) a pack of disinfecting wipes and a hand disinfecting gel (because I am a germaphobe…or in case you change a poopy and don’t have anywhere to wash your hands) oh yes and a burp rag.

I usually pack according to how long I will be gone…if I will be gone for less than an hour I pack less and vice versa.

It is also a good idea to keep extra diapers and clothes in the trunk of your car…because with babies you just never know!!!

  14. Always have a change of clothes for baby, plenty of bibs and wipes, bottles and formula if you use it snacks one the baby’s old enough juice, pacific er any toy you baby loves to settle em down oh and small blanket. Just what every your baby needs or may need depending how long your out for always pack extra.

LETS SEE IF ITS A DIAPER BAG MAYBE YOU WILL NEED DIAPERS!!!

  16. AntiSocial Says:

It really depends on how long I’m going to be gone. If it’s just an hour or two, I’d pack two bottles, some baby water and formula, one outfit in case my son decides to poop and it gets on his outfit, baby wipes and a receiving blanket. I also put a toy in there, like a small stuffed animal or a rattle. I pack about 5 diapers just in case I’m gone longer than what I plan on.

  17. i have a baby sister and have to dig in her bag all the time this is what you need:
    * at least 3-4 binkys b/c babys like to throw if they are at a cetain age
*at least two handfuls of diapers (this is if you are going somewhere for the day) if not then maybe 5 diapers *depends how long you are gone
*bottles and formula (or pumped breast milk (again depends if you are breats feeding and how much your baby eats)
    *blanket!!
*when your baby starts to eat baby food you want to pack at least a few gerber 1′s and 2′s, also still pack some bottles!!
    *2 cloth diapers
    * at least 2-3 bibs no matter how old they are, if they are younger you want to keep the bib on longer because an infant tends to spit up more
    *extra clothes
and you should be good good luck!! and congrats on your new baby! they are a lot of work but it is TOTALY worth it!! (of coarse i dont exactly have to get up w/ her at night b/c im just hte sister! =])

  18. It changes as your baby grows.
For a newborn: nappies/diapers (I like to carry 4), small pack of baby wipes, nappy sacks, one complete change of clothes, cloth (for burping), muslin wrap, spare dummy (if used), small toy.
I stopped carrying a separate handbag when my daughter was born, so I also put my personal items in the nappy bag.

  19. mother of 2 Says:

put it this way breast feed babies poop and pee a little more from my experience here is the thing in the hospital they usually provide diapers just check with yours and ask but as far as the baby hospital bag here is what i did i over packet just in case i had a spit up baby or anything (the hospital does provide blankets and t-shirts usually) but anyway i was in the hospital for 3 days and i packed 8 of those recieving blankets and like 8 to 10 changes of clothes i know that sounds over bored but it paid off in the end with my second child i had a boy and i swear he kept peeing and pooping and spiting up on everything and i went through all of it and sent my husband home for more on the last day with the dirty stuff so it pays to be overpacket anyway be sure to have baby socks and the little hand mitts and pacifiers if you are gonna use them and a few birp cloths and over time as the baby gets older depending on the amount of time you will be away from home you will learn how much to pack when you leave just pay attention to the babies daily routine

  20. I typically pack =

    6 diapers
    Baby Wipes
    Diaper Rash Cream
    Bibs
    Pacifier
    Change of Clothes
    2 bottles filled with water
    A can of formula
    Extra water bottle
    Baby Food
    Small Toy

  21. Purple Sparks Says:

    1) At least 6 diapers at all times
    2) Diaper rash ointment
    3) A change of clothes for the baby (just in case)
    4) At least 1 bottle/sippy cup (that’s if you are planning on pumping breast milk before you go out) (bottle liners also if needed)
    5) At least 1 bib
    6) A few favorite toys
    7) 2 small jars of baby food & spoon (of course when the baby is older)
    8) Snacks & juice

That should cover it. It sounds like a lot, but it’s not a heavy load once it’s all in the bag. I had all of these things with me when I had my little boy in diapers. Good luck!

  22. doubledwngrey Says:

    - 4-6 diapers
    - Wipes
    - Hand sanitizer
    - Bag for dirty diapers if you use cloth or don’t have access to trash for your disposables
    - Change of clothing
    - Extra onesie/babygro/snapsuit
    - Bag for dirty/wet clothing
    - Burp cloth/cloth diaper
    - Breastpads
    - Ointments for diaper area/nipples if needed
    - Bottle of water for you for when you’re nursing
    - Small toy for distractions during diaper changes

When baby is a little older you’ll want to carry a couple of extra toys. If baby is a proficient drooler or is prone to spitting up or having diaper blowouts, you’ll know to bring more burp cloths and changes of diapers and clothes.

  23. momma_jessa_to_be Says:

If your breast feeding, then you wont need bottles unless your pumping. Its always good to think ahead, how long you will be out. Depending on the time and how many diaper changes you do at home. We usually always have at least 4 diapers in the bag at a time just in case. Wipes are needed a travel case works well. Recieving blankets help along with burping clothes, face cloths, an extra change of clothes, toys are always good too. Water is a good thing to give a baby to help with pooping I know my son needed it, sugar water works wonders too, its sounds really weird and I was like SUGAR water? But then my son’s doctor told me that as well, and I tried it and he pooped not long after and it wasnt solid. So there are many things you can put in the diaper bag its always good just to remember diapers, wipes, burping and face cloths receving blankets help too but there not needed!! Hope this helps!!

  24. CONGRATS TO SOON TO BE MOMMY!

No one give the right answer on that because everyone packs there bag different. I have 2 bags.

One stays in the car with everything in…..
10 Diapers, case of wipes, 2-3 blankets, toys, extra clothes for the both of us, pacifiers, travel size baby powder, lotion, teething meds, spit rags. baby sunscreen, sippy cups, health care/grooming kit, butt paste for diaper rash, etxra breast padds if ur breast feeding so u dont leak in public. I had that happen to me serval times.

second one is a little smaller, just has, 5 diapers, case of wipes, breast pads, little hand sanitizer, travel size baby powder, spit rag (but u normally sit that on babys lap its easier to get too.)

Thats more less what u want in each diaper bag. I know u have two of everything but trust me its a lot easier that way. If ur still not sure check out these sites.

  25. Gibby Girl Says:

I agree with all the answers on here, but from personal experience, also add to the list a BLACK or WHITE t-shirt for yourself (black or white because they go with everything). In case baby gets sick on you or you leak through!! Trust me…BTDT!!!
I also throw my cell and my wallet into the bag, it’s way easier than having a purse, diaper bag, baby, stoller, etc, etc!!

  26. tank471984 Says:

I HATE carrying a diaper bag! Here’s my trick: Make a "Bye-Bye Bag", and put it in your trunk or back seat. Pack two weather-appropriate outfits (including socks and bibs), 8-10 diapers, an unopened pack of wipies, a binky, a clean bottle, a small UNOPENED can of formula (if you’re going to use it), burp rags, a blanket (wintertime or not), and a little toy or two. I know it sounds like a lot, but if you just put it all in a normal diaper bag and leave it in your car, when (and I say "when" because it WILL happen :p) you forget your diaper bag on a quick trip out the door, you’ll still have the emergency bag already. Also, you only need to worry about throwing a couple diapers, wipies, and a ready-made bottle to head out the door! It’s convenient, but you have to remember to check it every couple weeks; those babies don’t stay in clothes very long. Also, don’t leave any kind of formula in a hot car in the summer for any period of time, even if it’s unopened, but wintertime is just fine as long as you watch the date on the can.

Good luck, and by the way, first time moms are always taught to carry EVERYTHING the baby could ever need in the diaper bag: Don’t worry! Honestly, pack 6-8 diapers, a pack of wipes, food and feeding vessels, and maybe a change of clothing… I swear you’ll both make it home happy and healthy! ;)
