What is the difference between a diaper rash and a yeast rash on a 12 month old?

Is a diaper rash only red in color w/o bumps? is a yeast rash both red skin and include bumps in the vaginal area? My daughters poop has also smelled different the last 2 times she pooped.

My daughter had a diaper rash that didnt go away for over a week, so they said it was a yeast rash and gave us an RX to use on her diaper area and it went away real quick. Nystatin.
We had tried Butt paste, a & d, and destin.
With diaper rashes they can be linked to milk and food allergies, I only say this since your daughter is now 12 months and probably trying whole milk for the first time. I would keep an eye on it, and if it doesnt get better with over the counter diaper rash ointments within about 3 days, make an appt to see the MD.

  2. a diaper rash is a red rash, a yeast rash has whitish discharge

  3. i have a 10mo old and she is getting over a yeast infection now. so the difference is that a diaper rash is red and a little bumpy while a yeast infection is red and it looks like little pimples on her va jay jay and it spreads its not only right there its on her bum too. so to get rid of it you need to take her to the docs to get the right medicine…. hope i helped you a little.

if u think there is a yeast rash, u need to see the doc; a yeast rash won’t respond to reg diaper rash cream……and can get ugly fast…

  5. A diaper rash will usually clear up within 48 hours of diaper rash treatment. A diaper rash will mostly stay in the same local area on the baby and not spread that much. The baby’s bottom, genitals and thighs are what is affected.

A toddler yeast infection, on the other hand, can spread up into the baby’s abdomen region and into the genital folds. The color can be a darker and more pronounced red and will smell like bread. There may also be a scaling pattern in addition to a raised sore. Pus can also develop in these very sores.

The first thing to know is that conventional diaper rash treatment will not have any affect on toddler yeast infections. If a child gets thrush (oral yeast infection), it can spread into the little one’s digestive tract, then into the stool. The stool ends up in the diaper eventually. It’s not hard to understand now how infants can get a toddler yeast infection in the diaper area.

Make sure you wash your hands well after changing baby; yeast can live anywhere on a baby’s skin as well as in the folds. It is easy to spread bacteria to other parts of an infant’s body if they precautions are not taken.
