How to use cloth diapers?
turtle asked:
I'm about to have a baby and I want to know what everyone's experience is with using cloth diapers. What brands are good? Are there any tips for a new mom using them for the first time? Thanks

Fuzzy Bunz are incredible, my friend uses them, they don’t take any longer than disposables, they aren’t “smellier”, they wash in your washing machine, they are cheaper in the long run as they grow with your baby, you don’t need to buy more sizes usually, and you can re-use them with each child!
Google Cloth diapers, you will get a pile of results. Good luck and good for you for wanting to use the green (and cheaper!) choice!

There are tons of different kinds out there. Some work just like disposables but you wash them, some take a bit more work to put on. It really depends on what you want to spend and how easy you want them to be. The more you spend up front the more like disposables they tend to be.
I started my son on inexpensive prefolds, this worked well for a newborn. As he got older and could *** more I wanted something more absorbent and to add to it he didn’t stay still well during a diaper change so I needed something easier to put on. I ended up with bumgenius one side pocket diapers. They work well and I don’t have to buy different sizes as he grows so it’s a one time expense and I’m done. They are pricey, you need about 20 or so diapers to wash every 2-3 days. I got mine second hand on craigslist.com for about half price. Since these diapers are one size they snap down to newborn size but I found them to bulky for my son as a newborn.

I just in the past week started using BumGenius 3.0 OS. I love them! They’re super soft, cute, and easy to use. Right now, I am only using them part time, with my 6 month old. I don’t think I would have used them for her as a newborn. I’m a single mom, and didn’t have much help, so anytime I had to rest, I took it. My little girl was also colicky, so we had a rough beginning. That being said, I do plan on switching over to using them when ever I’m at home, but using disposables for travel.
I really like the BG’s, but for a newborn, I wouldn’t want to use then one size. With my little girl, I had to use Preemie diapers, she was born at 6lbs 4oz, so she was on the littler side, and the onesize would have been way too bulky. They do make sized BG’s, but I’ve never used any. I will say they are an easy switch form disposables. You should check them out!
