How are cloth swim diapers at containing breastfed poo?

kmccown517 asked:

We are going on vacation this summer and our son will be 6 months old. We are looking at cloth swim diapers since they are adjustable and reusable. The description says it contains "solid waste" but my son is breastfed and his poo is far from solid! Has anyone had any experience with this? Will it contain his non solid poo?

P.S. He is very small-5th percentile- and I have been unable to find disposable swim diapers that are for babies less than 16 lbs. His pediatrician has also cleared him for swimming this summer, so please no comments about that.

Actually in my opinion cloth holds **** a ton better then disposables, but at 6 months his **** should be somewhat formed from solids, so it will stay in the diaper better. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a baby swimming, they love it..

Well, i do not use cloth diapers since well, sure they save the environment but NO THANK YOU.. i have seen WAYYY to many accidents with them.. but, from knowing people who use them.. they DO contain the poo so long as you are using a diaper swin COVER. If you dont use a cover then no, you will much more thank likely have someleakage since the poo is still not formed. I just suggest finding a diaper swin cover,

  3. Wow they make a cloth swim nappy!? Well I would think that it would be quite messy sweetie with a breastfed baby in a cloth nappy but hey, the same mess I think would be made with a disposable one too. I really don’t think you can do much about holding in a runny one. Sweetie I guess be cause he is so small, you might just have to take your chances with the cloth but just buy a couple. Maybe you could wait till he’s done his poo if he’s regular or clockwork and then take him for a swim. Sometimes swimming can stop them from doing number 2′s but other times it can make them so I think you might have to take your chances sweetie. Good luck though with whatever you choose and have a great holiday. He sounds like a little cutie though.

i dont know about the reusable ones but last summer my daughter was 6 months and 14 pounds and the disposable swim diapers fit her just fine and held her poo (shes breastfed) by 6 months she wasnt pooping every day and then once you start solids, the poo will thicken up. that sounds really gross.

you need to put a cover on it with elastic round the legs to keep the **** in.
However, a really runny poo is going to escape anyhow!

Keep in mind though, at 6 months he will be on solids (i’m assuming) and his **** will not be as runny anymore…AND unless you plan on spending hours in the pool at a time (which I’m sure you won’t be), he will more than likely not poo in there anyhow.
Also, none of my kids have ever pooed in the water at all and we live at the beach so they have all been swimming a lot as babies

    best of luck
