While it’s good to do the green thing, it also uses more water as you are doing more wash. So, there are benefits and not. But, to answer your question here are some links:

Cloth diapers are the “green” thing to do but they are extremely messy and very time consuming…I say stick to the disposables and go green in other areas!

I have used cloth diapers for a little over a year now. There are so many different kinds now, so I am not sure what kinds you will be using. It sounds like you want to use prefolds. I, myself, got frustrated with prefolds and would much rather use pocket diapers and i like the ones that are one-size because then you only have to make one big purchase the whole time.
is a good website for buying them
Also if you want to make them and aren’t sure where to start, check out
Good luck!!
Oh yeah, and make sure you buy a diaper sprayer!! It will be the best thing you ever buy.

Tried that! Best is dispopsbles. Best advice…massage littlescalp with oil, after every bath, massage head with oil…never crusty scalp!

With my first we used Dydee Service. It was great. However, my husband’s work paid for the first 6 or 9 months as a benefit. It was great and free! They had these velcro covers that you folded the diaper in, so it was really like putting a regular diaper on. I did feel like I had to change them more often because the moisture was against her skin almost immediately. We used their service where we put the dirty diapers out once a week and they picked them up and dropped off a new batch. I would strongly recommend this! We did stop using them once she started walking, which was around 9 months. It just got too difficult to keep them on correctly and we were getting more leaks.

Don’t do it, it’s a giant waste of time and doesn’t impact the environment any more or less than disposables. What it does do is create a giant drain on your time and patience.
We had briefly, very briefly, considered cloth until you look at the facts. You use way more energy on water, detergent, electricity, etc than with disposable. While disposables do use more resources in production, those resources are more than saved when compared with the resources used over the life of a cloth diaper.
Do the research and save yourself all kinds of headaches with the disposables. Also, do a search for biodegradable disposables, which are even better!

I too am planning on using cloth diapers…I feel that even with the extra laundry that needs to be done in the long run I’m not filling up the trash fills with my dirty plastic diapers! I’ve read soo many different posts on cloth diapering that I think really everyone has a different opinion on what the they like, what works best for which age etc…I read a great thread on baby gaga under the preparing for baby board..try there. Also, there is a brand of diapering called g-diapers..you can purchase them online or in some stores. They are a good outer shell tht has a disposable inside….you can toss it out (its fully biodegradable), flush it, or compost it. I’ve also read that these diapers are great with cloth diapers inside as well.
