I use the old fashioned prefolds on my son. They are one size fits all. When you put them on a baby you just fold the front down to make it fit better. Eventually you won’t fold the front down at all because the baby will be too big to. I ended up buying enough packages to give me 18 diapers…that way I only have to do a load of diapers every other day. I think 6 come in a package so I ended up buying three packages. I also bought two packages of the rubber pants (three come in a package). I didn’t buy the 0-3 months because they were too small on my son anyhow. I ended up buying the 3-6 months. I will soon have to get the 6-9 months sizes. I love cloth diapers. Yes they are a little more work, but in my opinion, they are so worth it. Good luck.

i knoe they sell teh gerber brand at walmart and msot of them are one size but they also have the vinyl pants and they will say teh sizes in then. you cna also make your own cloth diapers or cut them to a smaller size. they dont haev to be perfect as long as they stay neat and comfy. they aheva s tore dodwntown where i live that is all about cloth diapers. i only use them sometimes or whenever my son has a rash
edit-try looking at more options online as welll
this website is great but they are pricey

The ones I’ve gotten from walmart where just TOO thin, they leaked like mad, so I’ve started getting the box ones. ;-;
Look for the ones with the padding down the middle, I can’t find them.

I recommend checking out for information on cloth diapering.

One size fits all generally. Get several, you’ll need them and I feel you can never have enough. They also make GREAT burp cloths, rags etc. And in case you haven’t researched, there are these plastic cover “diapers” you can put over top of the cloth, to better hold in place. They have velcro etc and you only need about two. I hope it works out, I’m pretty green and use the cloth sometimes. I highly recommend you get some newborn “swaddle” diapers, as the first two or three weeks, you’ll have enough to worry about besides how to get those damn cloth diapers to stay on.

Your best bet is to purchase at least 3 packages of the cloth diapers and at least 3 packages of the rubber pants. You tend to change cloth diapers more often and will go through about 6 changes a day. You’ll also want to double layer the diapers at night as this will keep the baby drier longer. Just so you know, you’ll be washing diapers every 2 to 3 days!

no, no, no, no, no – do NOT get the prefolds from walmart, kmart or most any other mart….the ONLY prefolds i can recommend from a mass retailer is the Gerber DSQ (DIAPER SERVICE QUALITY) prefolds – it has to be DSQ
the others are simply not absorbant – i too started out buying from walmart, kmart – then found the dsq at target – and could just feel the quality difference – (they no longer have them in my target store but they are avail online) – they are a bit more expensive – but they are worth it –
also – do not get the vinyl pants – if you are on a budget – (i was) – get the dappi diaper cover – it is much more breathable, cuter and has velcro – and they are only $3 each – you will also need some snappis – don’t bother with the pins (tho they can come in handy for broken zipper tabs)
the gerber dsq is a one size deal – the prefolds you can purchase online come in various sizes – infant, regular, premium and toddler – (some have preemie i think)
my baby is 4 mos old and is almost outgrown the infant size i bought from a lady on craigslist (most of my diapers came from craigslist), the premiums (also from craigslist) are still working well (tho i will have to go up in them as well) – i do have some toddler ones that right now are quite large on her – fold down the back and the front (talk about diaper ****!!)
the gerber dsq from target – is maybe a little larger than the infant sizes i have – but i can still use them
how many you will need depends on your baby – mine is a heavy/frequent wetter and i use at least 14 diapers a day – i have 6 dozen prefolds that are good – the others are from walmart/kmart, and make great bottle props – i dont even like them for burp rags (flats are best for that)
i also have quite a few flatfolds – i think about 3 dozen – they are wonderful for burp rags – and when i am running low on diapers i can use them – i can also use them as doublers when i have nothing left but the cheapos from walmart – (i recommend the gauze or birdseye flats)
with all of my diapers i can go up to 3 days without washing diapers, when my every other day schedule is interrupted with appointments and errands
with my stash i also have enough to keep in my emergency bag – 3 days worth of all baby items already in a bag to grab and go if an emergency arises –
i also use wool covers at night – VERY absorbant – breathable, cool in summer, warm in winter – naturally antibacterial and you only have to wash (by hand) and lanolize every other week – (long time to dry – but WELL worth it)
you also do not want to use bleach or fabric softener and you should use some of the free and clear detergents – no buildup of soap that way – you can use dryer balls – and that also cuts down on drying time –
you could also check out some of the doublers as well – basically just fleece and terry cloth – or just use the flats – which is what i did until i could buy some – and even now i still use the flats sometimes
stalk craigslist for cloth diapers – like i said – i found 4 dozen of mine on there for less than $100
